Collaborative Button

2009 - wood and electronics

As a component of the "Tech Tools of the Trade" exhibition, the de Saisset Museum in Santa Clara commissioned me to create a participatory sculpture. During a one night event participants wired and drilled a button into one of the 5 satellite platforms. Once a button was wired, drilled, and installed by a participant, it was labeled with a function. With the aid of the central unit, any labeled button can be pushed enabling that function to take effect somewhere in the world. Lights and sound accompany all button pushes. All participants received a button (see below) for contributing a button!

Thank you to the de Saisset museum for sponsoring and supporting this piece. Thank you to everyone that contributed. Success!
